NEURO REHAB OVERVIEW
Neurological Physiotherapy is a specialist area of physiotherapy focused on the rehabilitation and treatment of individuals with a disorder of the nervous system. Neurological disorders affect the functioning of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), Spinal Cord Injury, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s are common neurological conditions.
Our approach to Neuro Rehab is a multi-disciplinary, bio-psycho-social approach – looking at each patients’ specific goals and dreams for a quality life! Our aim and focus is on working and restoring the patients ability to function independently within his optimal potential. Part of our approach is also to collaborate with the immediate family whose life’s have also being affected. Different approaches are used to give you the best opportunity for improvement.
Vision and Purpose
We follow a participatory approach in our rehabilitation plan to promote self-management and empowerment on their journey to recovery by
• Patient centric approach.
• Treat patients holistically
• Follow a bio-psychosocial model
• Have a multi-disciplinary approach
• Giving hope for healing
• Incorporate the immediate family
• Walk the road with your patient on their way to recovery to achieve a quality life
ASSESSMENT
Each assessment will differ depending on your specific problem and specific goals, but you will always begin your rehabilitation journey with us with a thorough assessment This is a key to a successful treatment outcome. There are two sections to the assessment process. A subjective assessment about the history of onset, nature, behaviour of symptoms and psycho-social factors. An objective assessment looking at function, impairment, joint integrity, muscle function, neural integrity and dynamics and dependence. After the assessment different treatment options are explained, always keeping the patients goals and dreams in mind, and an individualized treatment plan is discussed to help the patient reach his optimal potential.
This may vary from:
• Motor learning – stimulate neuroplasticity of the brain
• Bobath approach
• Balance exercises
• Fall prevention
• Vestibular rehabilitation
• Electrical stimulation for inducing muscle contraction
• And many more
